Coachella. There's music, there's style, and there's a big ferris wheel to ride. It's one of the most popular music and srts festivals created, taking place in Indio, California. I only know this because of Wiki. Apart from what I've seen on social media, I knew/know nothing about this event, yet I wanted to attend. Yea, wanted. I don't even want to go to Coahella any more. This post was going to be "Coachella Inspired" outfit, because it's what I imagined wearing if I were to attend. Now that I don't want to go, I'm not sure what to do with the post, so I'm just going to wing it.

One of the most important lessons I am learning from life is the importance of staying true to who you are. You can't be afraid of who you really are, the things you enjoy, and what excites you in life. Allowing these facets of yourself to be unapologetically raw and real is essential in becoming who you were meant to be. With that being said, it's definitely easier said than done.
There are so many influences that we come in contact with on a daily basis; friends, family, social media, news outlets, blogs, magazines, celebrities, music, radio. I didn't realize just how many ways I am fed information, without doing my own research, and simply go with it. It's actually eye opening when you think about how easily one can be persuaded, convinced, and made to believe what they see and hear. It happens on large scales and smaller ones too, like for me with the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.
I wanted to go to Coachella because of what it looked like on Instagram; because of the drool worthy clothing pieces separated into their own section of my favorite shopping websites; because I used to be easily influenced by everything I saw that was popular. I'm not that way so much anymore and I am really proud and happy about it.
After seeing how much it would cost me to go (possibly a month house payment or two), the line up of artists (I knew only 5 of the musical artists), and reading reviews on it I realized it wasn't for me. It is "the time of my life" fun for someone, but in being true to myself I know that someone is not me. Coachella does not cater to who I am, and that's okay. Everything isn't for everybody and you should never change who you are to be like everybody. Stay true, simple!
NO love (or money) lost. This realization allowed me to learn something else about myself. Just because certain aspects of a situation are not favorable to me, doesn't mean I can't enjoy what I can from it. I'm not here for the festival, but I do love the style surrounding it. It's boho chic with tons of fringe, high waisted everything, lace, linen, dangling jewelry, crochet, Converse, and so much more! I was inspired to create my own simple Coachella-esque look.
My outfit is pretty typical and standard, as Coachella looks go. The fashionistas of the event truly show up and show out when it comes to their pieces and pairings. It's all about looking as free and fun spirited as possible. You can do that with matching prints, mixing mediums, cut off shorts, frills to blow in the valley wind, or a little all of the above.
I chose to pair some of my favorite cut off high waist shorts with an off shoulder flowing crop top. The great thing about this look is that it looks great just walking around in your city. For me, that was a must.
I found this old school bag in the bottom of my closet and thought "This looks festival appropriate"! It doesn't have much capacity, but that could work to your advantage. The smaller your bag, the less you can carry with you and you don't want to be at a festival looking like you're walking around a college campus.
My sandals weren't as intentional as my bag. I needed at least some kind of pattern in there, and what better material than faux snake skin? Festivals typically require a lot of walking, so I'm not sure how practical they are in an actual event. If you're willing to forfeit comfort for cute, you're good to go!
Lastly, my ear headband. For some reason I was expecting this headband to complete my transform this look and although it definitely doesn't harbor any special powers, it does do something unique for the look. I loved how silly I felt in them. For a festival, I would totally appropriate, but outside of that not so much. Not many people are just walking around wearing headbands with cat ears, so I stood out, but I liked it. Not the looks, but the fearless version of myself it forced me to be. You can't cat ears without confidence. Not at all!
That's everything! So no, you'll probably never see me swaying side to side to the vibes of Coachella (in case you're ever looking) but that doesn't mean I can't dress the part. Staying true to me and looking cute while I'm at it.
Peace and truth, beautiful people!
