I have never considered myself to be "fashion forward". I am the type to wear what I like regardless of seasons, styles, or trends most of the time. Don't get me wrong, I love to stay hip to what's poppin' in the fashion world, but by no means do I care or do I have the ability to wear what's hot. So, imagine my surprise and feelings of pride when I realized that I had designed on #OOTDbyBLT with two colors extremely close to the Pantone Color of the Year. Keep reading to see how I rock my "Pastels for Pantone"! ;)
If you are unfamiliar, as I was, Pantone is a popular color company that specializes in creating and matching colors, primarily for printing, but also for paints, fabrics, and plastics. They utilize what is known as their Pantone Matching System that uses numbers to identify certain colors. Every year, the company decides on a specific color of the year. This year, there are TWO colors to adorn! Rose Quartz and Serenity are the 2016 Colors of the Year and I LOVE them!

The color of the year, as quoted by Pantone, is
"A symbolic color selection; a color snapshot of what we see taking place in our culture that serves as an expression of a mood and an attitude."
I love that idea! Colors that help to map out your movements through eveyday life; how you feel, how you express yourself, and the vibe that you're putting out into the world. Ive always appreciated the ability of colors produce a feeling inside, effortlessly. Whether I am looking at calming neutral tones, warm deep shades, or bright and vibrant hues, there is an emotional response to it immediately. If you think about it, colors have always been meant to evoke an emotion and have been apart of our lifestyles and customs since the beginning of time.

Black used to be synonymous with sadness and melancholy feelings, although now is associated with being chic and dapper. Purple is associated with royalty, nobility, and ambition. Red is powerful, strong, loving, and energetic. Yellow correlates with happiness. The list can go on!
The colors that you wear evoke an emotion in the people that you interact with before you even speak. I never realized the impact that a color can have on how you feel every day. Think about the last time you wore a bright color, I bet it was pretty hard to feel down in the dumps.
I chose this outfit solely based on the relationship of these two colors. Both hues are considered pastels, both made me feel light and airy, and both can evoke the same emotion- calm. My black booties help to pull the look together, as black is always a great color for neutralizing a look. Your feet are the foundation of your body, so the shoes you wear must be the foundation of your outfit. Lastly, I paired my snake skin cross body for a little flare. Although I love the pastels, I thought this bag would be perfect to break up the solids.
Although I stand firmly by the phrase, "Black is BEAUTIFUL!", it would be ridiculous to be oblivious to the idea that colors can be just as appealing. The fashion world has a great appreciation for the color black, as it can evoke whatever emotion you would like for it to, but thanks to companies like Pantone, color is made popular, as it will stay.
For the next look you crate, try thinking about your color selections and the type of mood or vibe you want to evoke. It's easier than you think...just let go and let the colors flow!
Peace, pastels, and Pantone, beautiful people!
xo,
BLT
