I don't know if you all are as excited as I am about this week of events, but I must admit, I am pumped! Yet, to be completely honest, I was initially clueless about exactly what "Fashion Week" was. Of course I knew that it was a week full of fashion designers showcasing their upcoming lines (that I could only afford in my dreams), but...that's about it. I took my curiosity and turned my questions into answers. So lets have a little crash course in FASHION! We will call it-
FASHION WEEK 101!
The tricky thing about fashion, it is always a step ahead! They phrase "fashion forward" wasn't coined for nothing, so designers are a season ahead of the game when it comes to their lines. Here is the break down:
- Spring/ Summer- This is what will be hot for the Spring and Summer seasons.These lines are presented from September to November for the following year. So Spring/Summer 2014 was shown in 2013 (this is where I got lost, but luckily am found, I think).
- Fall/ Winter- This is what we all want to bundle up in for the Fall and Winter seasons. These lines are presented from January to April for the current year. So this current fashion week is for what we will wear in the winter of this year (does anyone else feel behind yet?)
- Resort/Cruise- The line for travelers. Designers develop this line for those that will be traveling to warmer climates for vacations or going on cruises. (yes, your spring break vacation can count!) These lines are not as popular, but still important to note. They are shown between the Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter shows.

Okay, so we understand what is being shown, but where? -The fashion capitals of the world of course! Each location has a fashion week twice a year! I know, TWICE! Once already blew my mind, but TWICE!
NEW YORK- Mercedes Benz Fashion Week
LONDON- London Fashion Week
MILAN- Milan Fashion Week
PARIS- Paris Fashion Week
Women's wear and Menswear are shown separately. Women's wear is always first.
- WOMEN'S WEAR- February to March for Fall/Winter season and September to October for Spring/Summer beginning in New York and ending in Paris on both occasions.
- MENSWEAR- January in Milan, then Paris for Fall/Winter showcases and June in the same order for Spring/Summer.
BURBERRY PRORSUM LONDON FASHION WEEK S/S 2014
The invited, yes you must be invited in order to attend, who's who of fashion and well-known celebrities will be in attendance for this week of style. Sadly, I am neither (yet), so I will be enjoying NYFW from the comfort of my little dorm room and with the live coverage! Thank God for technological advances. We are in there! Today's shows are coming to an end, but here is the full schedule of the remaining week.
