I've always been one to associate "sexiness" with skin tight, extremely revealing, and super short clothing, so if I wanted to feel sexy that is what I wore. Thank God for GROWTH, because I no longer feel that way. My idea of sexy has evolved into what it should be, my own. Sexy is not a specific piece of clothing or a certain style, it is a feeling. Some people feel sexy in lingerie and a smoldering look, while others could feel equally as sexy in a a big t-shirt with messy hair. How you define sexy is based on how you define yourself; it's individualized and undetermined by the outside world the way it was meant to be. It took me sometime to find my own definition of sexy (all of college), but it's a mindset I wont abandon and one that has helped me tremendously in the fashion world.
My refined definition of sexy is being mysterious, leaving a little to the imagination, and doing it all with a smile. I no longer think you need to put it all out there for the world to see, just to prove you can be sexy and have sexy features. I no longer think that bedroom eyes and sultry faces are the only way to express a seductive attitude. What you have underneath is not for the world to see and making those faces is just NOT my thing! Here is my rationale on why being a mystery: What's more interesting to a person opening gifts...all the presents they've already opened, or that one that's still wrapped up? Especially if the presents they have already unwrapped aren't the present they really wanted and have been waiting on! Personally, I would be more curious about that last present sitting nicely wrapped in that pretty paper, but that's just me and how I think. You're more inclined to gravitate towards that present you know nothing about and are wondering what's inside. We'll have to talk about this more on another post, my mind is churning! (Stay tuned!) Back to the fashion!
In this outfit, for the first time ever, I felt sexy in clothes that I usually wouldn't. Nothing was too clingy, too revealing, or overly provocative. I'll admit, my skirt was a little (lot) on the short side, but I'll just blame that on poor online shopping judgement and long legs, plus a little leg never hut anybody. Other than that, my skirt wasn't as tight as I use to wear them and my shirt showed nothing! Go me! When I planned this look, my main thought was balance! I knew my skirt was short, so if I was showing a lot of leg, then I needed to cover up the top portion of my body, to maintain that mystery. On the opposite hand, if I was going to be a bit revealing up top, then my bottom would have needed to be longer. Another idea is if your dress is body con, maybe choose a mid-length piece, so that it's not short and tight, so that length can add a little more mystery (and midi's are SO in)! Or if your dress is super short, go for the skater skirt style, so that it cinches your waist, but flares at the hips (that's always flattering on just about any body type).
There are so many ways to work this idea of sexy, so if you're like me and define your sexy in a similar way, feel free to try one of these styling ideas out. If not and this is not how you imagine sexy to be, completely ignore and do your own thing, because staying true to yourself always works for me! Find your "sexy", define your "sexy", and be your "sexy". I've found mine, and it's 'Sexy and Smiling'!;)
